Split Pea Soup Recipe

Serves 4

1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
5/8 pinch dried marjoram
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
5/8 potato, diced
1-1/2 cups dried split peas
5-1/3 cups cold water
1 pound ham bone
1-1/4 onions, thinly sliced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1.  Cover peas with 2 quarts cold water and soak overnight.  Once peas are soaked, add ham bone, onion, salt, pepper and marjoram in the pot. Cover, bring to boil and then simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
2. Remove the bone and return meat to soup. Add celery, carrots and potatoes. Cook slowly, uncovered for 45 minutes, or until vegetables are tender.
